Special Issue Introduction

Autophagy, a cellular housekeeping process is a major regulator of liver health. Dysregulation of autophagy in liver cells is linked to several hepatic pathologies including alcoholic/ non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; drug-induced acute liver injury; liver ischemia and hepatocellular carcinoma. Not surprisingly, the treatment approaches including autophagy modulating drugs targeting liver metabolism are also rapidly evolving. This special issue will focus on our current understanding and future implication of autophagy regulation in liver metabolism and health.
